How to Replace the Bulbs in Your Radio
Is your radio display not as bright as it used to be? The bulbs likely need to be replaced. This is a relatively easy DIY project that can be done with a few basic tools.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to replace the bulbs in your radio:
Remove the volume slider control. This is usually done by pulling it forward towards you.
Lift open the turntable lid and press the small button on the right. While holding the button pressed, slide the complete radio cover towards you.
Remove the plastic "frame" and prise out the clear perspex display board.
The 2 bulbs are soldered to tiny circuit boards. These circuit boards will need to be removed by carefully pressing the plastic tabs to one side.
De-solder the old bulbs from the back and push through the legs of the new ones. Once the new bulbs are in place, solder them in place.
Once you have replaced the bulbs, reassemble the radio in reverse order.
Tips:
Be careful when de-soldering the old bulbs and soldering the new ones in place. It is important to avoid overheating the circuit boards.
If you are not comfortable soldering, you can take your radio to a professional electronics repair shop.
